Hobs are small house elves or spirit or faerie, that in the folklore of the Irish, Scottish, and other Celtic peoples hang around your house and either help you with upkeep or trash the place if you piss them off.

This particular hob, whom everyone just calls Hob, is a bit bigger and less useful. But he will eat a horse for your squatter’s needs.
