Owen has entered the story.

That’s right, my son, Owen. Don’t worry — I got his permission to become transformed into a webcomic character. He’s kinduva natural for it, anyway.

Actually, Owen first appears briefly in the previous chapter in a one panel glimpse of my family, but you only see him from behind, as he plays with the baby. His first appearance in Fetch the webcomic was a few years ago, and he has appeared in other comics I have done. But insofar as Otherworldly Goods goes, this is his first real introduction.

His character design here is based on his former 12-13 year-old self. For all of middle school he had blue hair and wore little else that wasn’t blue, including a blue “pussy hat” his mom made him for the Women’s March. (Those were pink, of course, but he wanted blue. It fit his complexion, I think.) Nowadays he is older and dies his hair a dark brown and wears more black and white. But I like this design and he was about this age when I started putting this story together.

Fetch the webcomic began as a hybrid of autobiographical and political cartooning with some fantasy elements. With Otherworldly Goods it has transformed into a graphic novel with much stronger fantasy elements, but I have not lost sight of the other aspects of this strip. They are all part of this tapestry (or maybe it’s a scarf or a pussy hat, who knows?) I am stitching together.
